DESCRIPTION
After contracting hepatitis A, Ezaki Yuuichi has been confined to a hospital away from his friends and family, much to his displeasure. To relieve his boredom, he has taken to sneaking out of the hospital, usually putting himself on the receiving end of a beating from his nurse. Upon meeting a girl his age also staying in the hospital, he is immediately captivated by her beauty. Akiba Rika's personality is not quite as captivating as her beauty however. In fact, she is rather selfish, moody, and bossy. But as the two spend more time with each other, they become closer, sharing the ordinary joys and trials of a budding teenage romance, even when darkened with impending tragedy - for Rika's condition does not leave her much longer to live.

"Everything doesn't have a happy ending."
____Story____ Yuuichi Ezaki is diagnosed with Hepatitis A. Being stuck to a hospital, he meets a patient named Rika Akiba. Rika has a weak heart valve, leaving her to be hospitalized for most of her life. After meeting Rika, Yuuichi wants to spend as much time as he can with her before she dies. Their friendship begins to blossom into special feelings as their life in the hospital slowly connect closer and closer.
____Visuals____ The visuals are very average for its time. It's nothing too special, but there's nothing bad about it either. This will probably be the last time I have a visuals section in my reviews (Unless I really do find something really good/bad about them)
____Characters____ Yuuichi Ezaki is the kind-hearted man you'd probably expect. He genuinely cares about Rika's safety and her feelings, going through certain lengths to make her happy. Rika Akiba is at first rude and disrespectful to Yuuichi, but she slowly begins to show her true self. As she grows closer to Yuuichi, Rika begins to act more friendly and happy towards him. Akiko Tanizaki is the nurse that treats Yuuichi. Although a bit bratty at times, Akiko actually has a soft side for Yuuichi, showing her more free lifestyle in later episodes. The doctor that takes care of Rika, Gorou Natsume, isn't a fan of Yuuichi in particular. Gorou likes to mess with him, sometimes trying to ruin the relationship between Yuuichi and Rika.
____The Good____ With what the show provides, I think that the show does a good job drawing emotions out of the characters. When the scenes are supposed to be emotional, they are as emotional as they should be. Even with the somewhat predictable ending, I still felt all the raw emotions hitting me at once. I saw a couple of times where the show could've taken itself more lightly and I'm so glad that they chose to make this a completely serious anime. The topic they cover is quite a dramatic and painful one, so trying not to downplay it in this anime definitely benefited in terms of the quality of the plot.
____The Bad____ This anime lacks the "it" factor that many other anime ranked higher than this have. It doesn't really have anything somewhat special going for itself. There's definitely other unique anime out there that take concepts from this show and make it more entertaining and interesting. Not to say that this show is necessarily boring, but it's definitely nothing to talk about.
____The Downright Ugly____ Nothing downright ugly about this anime.
____Is It Worth The Watch?____ Hmm.... This is a somewhat difficult question for me to answer. It's a decent show, but I don't think it's anything you should waste your time on. It's not bad by any means, but it's not good enough for me to say that watching the entirety of this show was worth it. For that reason, I'd say that it's not worth the watch, but only because it's nothing spectacular.
Thank you for taking the time to read my review. I hope this helped you with your decision on whether to watch this anime or not! If you already have watched it, I hope that you can agree with me with some of the points I made. ^^
