Short review: Molester Man is an unexpectedly wholesome love story, which will have you clutching your stomach laughing at one moment and going “awww” the next. It’s wordy, but once you get through the first few chapters, it becomes easier to follow and enjoy.
Full review:
I did my best to make this review spoiler free!
I started reading this like seven years ago or so, but I only reached the first five chapters because there were too. Many. Words. That’s the top complaint of readers, and I’ll admit it takes quite a while before one gets used to it. This manga is based off a 2chan thread, which is why there are so many side comments and messages, but once the ball gets rolling and the characters come into focus, it gets more digestible.
The premise is amusing, but at the first few chapters you figure out at once who Molester is going to end up with and basically how the story will turn out. I don’t think this detracts from the experience, though, as the journey (and character development!!) is worth it. It’s surprisingly unrealistic for something supposedly pulled off a forum but we never know I guess. It has a lot of basic romance cliches, but it works, and before you know it, you’ve seen an awkward Molester caterpillar grow into a Molester butterfly.
As for the other characters (the harem-ish), they’re pretty cute. Of course the best girl is set up really well (I feel like she’s someone who would be a good friend irl lol), but the other girls aren’t exactly pushed aside. There’s only so much you can do with 20-or-so chapters, but the growth we see from our lead character is pretty admirable.
Lastly, the art. It’s sketchy art. What I mean is it looks like it came out of a sketchpad, but no complaints from me because Molester Man has some of the best references ever in a comedy manga. I don’t want to spoil what exactly (just think shounen manga popular circa 2004 I suppose), but I swear some of the panels are 10/10.
I’m glad I finally took the time to finish this series! Overall, it’s a very fun read. I laughed so much and I was smiling for the rest of the time. I recommend this for lonely people such as myself (huhu) as a reminder that there is hope for everyone !! lmao and to people who just want to laugh a lot I guess.
