75/100Light hearted Comedy with NO tension at ALLContinue on AniListImportant to note before I get to the rest of my review: The main character and her friends are all cats. The humans in this show do NOT see them as anything other than cats, even if they look like people to us, the people here also CANNOT hear the cats speak. Maybe that's an obvious thing, but it took me till episode 2 to fully figure that out.
It's more of a Slice of Life Magical Girl anime than anything, really. The characters are all pretty unique and endearing and I personally liked all of them, but Galette really grew on me towards the end.
I never found myself disliking any character. Sure, sometimes I'd get annoyed at something a character was doing but I never found that I'd specifically dislike the character. I absolutely LOVE Nachos specifically, his crush on Toruto was so cute to watch and I honestly wish there was a second season or OVA so i could keep watching everyone interact. The subplots with the humans/owners never detracted from the main plot and usually it'd tie in with whatever Toruto and her friends were up to that day, which was nice, hell, even though the ending was rushed, there were still scenes there that I actually enjoyed and I WOULD rewatch the ending again. While the majority of the show is peaceful if not a bit confusing, the ending was rushed. VERY rushed and iori's appearance there just made it a bit worse, unneeded. I feel like they'd have done better putting the effort they used for his entrance into explaining _who _some of the characters they introduced at the end were or giving the "guards" something useful to do, they have three appearances and not ONCE did they do anything aside from kneel, speak and then disappear.
Honestly, giving Iori the stone and having him appear right at the end to 'save' Toruto felt like a "random bullshit GO!" move. I personally would have given that stone to Galette- as he was already shown to be pretty active with wanting to defend Toruto, or Nachos- due to his crush and all. I forgot the flying squirrels name but even HE would have been a better choice than iori, but, well, I guess I can see what they were going for there.
All in all though, it WAS a good watch and I would and even WILL watch it again, despite some of the huge issues I just mentioned, I personally feel like the rest of the show makes up for it, and I hope you all give it a watch too.If you've gotten THIS far in my review: Hurray! You can watch ALL of it, Dubbed AND Subbed on Tubi. I watched it Dubbed and the voices for each character were AMAZING. The show in general has that 2000s vibe (which makes sense seeing it came out 2001)- and maybe that's what helped me enjoy it a bit more, personally I've missed a lot of the animation and gags that 2000s animes had. I hope you all enjoy the show as much as I did. 7/10
