  This series does not share its predecessor's strong writing. It's just extreme hentai, and nothing more.

  I'll start this review off with the obligatory statement that, as with all entries in the Night Shift Nurses franchise, this is a very extreme hentai series with plenty of bondage, scat, and other such content matter that many would consider undesirable. So if you're squeamish, don't even bother reading past this point--this series isn't for you. Now... Night Shift Nurses 2 (technically, it's not licensed, but we all know "ni" means "two") is a direct sequel to the original series in that at least two characters make reappearances, but falls short compared to its predecessor in many areas, not the least of which is the storyline.

  Writing: The general premise of the series remains consistent in that the hospital seeks to employ a doctor who will train unwitting nurses into sex slaves for the institute's own profit... but the fact that the hospital would rehash the exact same gambit again after the less-than-desirable outcome of the first series (the definition of insanity is trying the exact same thing multiple times and expecting different results) defies any logical sense and says that the producers were rather desperate to find some way to continue a series that really wasn't meant to be continued.

  Setting the big unrealistic plot element aside, there are several smaller instances of unrealistic script and dialogue throughout the series that were not present in the original. This is especially noticeable in the character interactions. In the original series, most would not have considered the doctor a sympathetic character, to be sure, but he had some level of compassion and intimacy with his subjects, and worked their minds such that they developed feelings for him, giving the series a very psychological aspect. In Night Shift Nurses 2, the main character lacks this sort of manipulative aura... in fact, he's just plain physically abusive, and that's all there is to his character. His subjects all develop feelings for him, regardless, however--hence my assessment of this sequel being much less realistic than the original in terms of writing.

  Art: The art hasn't changed too much, thankfully, as the series is regarded as being one of the higher-end pieces in the field of hentai. There may be just a bit less detail than the first series, which one might attribute to the fact that the franchise had already established its place in the industry by the time this sequel was produced, but Night Shift Nurses 2 is still one of the better-animated hentai series out there.

  Sound is also something I can't really complain about. The Japanese voices all played their roles as well as any other hentai, and the music was suited to the screen. It did feel a bit less recognizable than the original series' soundtrack, which had a very distinct theme to it, but nonetheless manages to maintain viewer interest. Unlike the first series, this one has added a proper opening song and closing song, like other anime... which feels weird in a hentai, to me, but I'll leave the judgement of whether this was a good decision or not up to you.

  In the end, Night Shift Nurses 2 could be considered good for a hentai, but it did not live up to the standards set by its predecessor in being good not only as a hentai, but as an anime. A couple characters from the original series return for this one; most don't. If you found yourself at all attached to the original characters, this may be worth a view, but I wouldn't expect to see a holy grail of hentai if I were you.
